Some advise on the basis of FAQs and experiences of the past
years:
- The user name is included
in the URL. You may find it between the protocol identifier and the @ sign.
('inflab')
(Due to safety reasons, the password is not included in the URL. A good
browser will ask for it anyhow.)
- The Firefox is not able to
upload to an FTP server, so you are to use an FTP client. If you are a
Windows user, e.g. the TotalCmd is OK.
- WARNING Some browsers
doesn't respect the standard protocols. (Q.: Which one?) Those one, for
examle, can not handle the "331" code ("Password required", in deatils, see
RFC640.) of FTP servers
and will indicate an "Authentication error" rather than calling the login
dialog box. To solve the above problem, see chapter 3.1 of
RFC1738
